Lapalaka was founded in 1989 by the current Managing Director, Herman Pieterse. The new business originated in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State, with the intention of creating affordable, high quality housing solutions.
The business eventually moved to Johannesburg to be in close contact with the South African Housing Trust who assisted with the development of 2500 low income housing units across Gauteng and other provinces. Lapalaka initially built affordable houses in Botshabelo near Bloemfontein, Thabong near Welkom, Kanana near Orkney, Mamelodi near Pretoria and Tsakani near Vosloorus. These houses formed the building blocks of a property development company centred around the creation and restoration of real estate projects that add value to the communities they inhabit.
The business has since grown into various property sectors. Since 1992 Lapalaka developed mixed use, commercial and industrial properties in Johannesburg, Tshwane and Cape Town. Over the years 25 sectional title three and four storey residential apartments.
We were also involved in the development of sectional title industrial properties for factories and warehouses varying in size with un-compromised standard of quality.
Lapalaka has completed 4400 purpose-built student accommodation units in Pretoria at Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, and Wits.
Lapalaka is geared for growth as we welcome promising new opportunities and always look at new ways of unlocking land value. The family business grew as the new generation excelled in the disciplines of marketing, architecture and finance, ready for new challenges.
